Why Behind The Mask?

The mask in Black theatrical and West African traditions has never been about hiding. It has always been about revealing — about stepping into the truth a person carries beneath the daily performance demanded of them. For the young artists, the families, the community: behind every mask is a story still being written.

For 20 years, World Stage Theatre has created stories, memories, friendships, and unforgettable moments on stage. As we close out this special anniversary year, we want to celebrate not only the works we’ve produced, but the talented artists, technicians, creatives, and friends who have been a part of our journey.

On October 31, 2026, we will gather in joy, love, and grandeur behind masks, beneath chandeliers, beholden to musical rhythms, adorned in royalty.

This is not a gala. This is a homecoming. A reclamation. A celebration. A blueprint for the next twenty years.
