WHO I AM CELEBRATING ME

Formed in 2006 in response to the lack of celebratory events in Portland during Black History Month, Who I Am Celebrating Me dared to fill a void. To date, through partnerships with schools, businesses, and other community organizations, Who I Am Celebrating Me has helped educate thousands of audience members about the rich history and contributions of African-Americans.

Join us for our 20th Anniversary Friday February 20, 2026 & Saturday February 21, 2026 at The Dolores Winningstad Theatre.

This very talented and all-ages cast of players is directed by Shalanda Sims whose credits include Vanport, A Year w/Frog & Toad, Into The Woods, Redefining Alberta, and Once On This Island.

Who I Am Celebrating Me

From soul-encompassing singing and dancing to heartfelt poetry and prose, the production highlights a montage of African-American figures and movements of past and present.

Vanport (The Musical)

Originally debuted in 2013 at Jefferson High School, Vanport, has made a huge impact on the knowledge of this lost history within Portland.

Once On This Island

Once on This Island is a vibrant, Caribbean-inspired musical about love, hope, and the power of storytelling. It follows Ti Moune, a peasant girl who rescues and falls in love with a wealthy boy from the other side of the island.

Into The Woods

Into the Woods features all of your favorite characters, Cinderella, Little
Red Ridinghood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and many more in this lyrically rich retelling of classic Brothers Grimm fables.
