TIMELINE OF COMPETITION
The Journey students will take throughout the competition.
ORIENTATION
After registering for the competition, Students will choose their monologue and learn all they need to know about the competition. The Deadline to register is December 2, 2024
AUDITIONS
Students will perform their monologues in front of a panel of judges, who will select participants to move on to the Regional Semi-Finals. Auditions will occur the week of December 9-13, 2024 at participating student’s high schools.
PRELIMINARY FINALS
The top 3 Students that move on from their first auditions will move on to the preliminary finals in which they will come to World Stage Theatre and audition again. Out of these auditions, 12 students will move on to receive Master Classes and compete in the Regional Finals. This will take place on January 11, 2024
MASTER CLASSES
In these six Master Classes, semi-finalists will receive training from professional actors and teaching artists to prepare them for the Regional Finals. Beginning January 18, 2024
REGIONAL FINALS
Semi-finalists will compete downtown at The Judy on March 3, 2025, and 2 students will be selected as Portland’s Regional Finalists. The third-place winner will receive $100, the second-place winner will receive $250, and the first-place winner will receive $500. First and second-place students will also receive an all-expenses-paid trip to New York for a chance to compete at the National Competition Finals on Broadway.
NATIONAL FINALS
The first and second-place regional winners from each city will compete at the National Finals. Students must be available for four full days of travel. World Stage Theatre will provide chaperones. Parents, guardians, teachers, and other family and friends are welcome but will need to pay their own way.
Portland’s Regional Finalists, along with those from other cities, will see a Broadway production (or two!) and take in popular New York sites before competing. Students compete in front of a panel of celebrity judges. The night’s festivities also include performances by surprise theatrical and musical guests.
